I Shall Not Hate
The life of Palestinian doctor Izzeldin Abuelaish is remarkable. He was born in the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, studied medicine in Cairo and then qualified in Obstetrics. He became the very first Palestinian doctor to work in an Israeli maternity ward. But he is particularly notable for being a man with a generous and extremely peaceful heart, a man who believes in forgiveness and reconciliation. That faith was severely tested in January 2009 when his home was shelled by an Israeli tank, killing his three daughters. Following this, he emigrated to Toronto.
Against all odds, he then decided to dedicate himself to eliminating hatred everywhere, a message he proclaimed worldwide in English, Arabic and Hebrew. It earned him a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. Abuelaish is an inspiring human being, with a message that is more urgent now than ever.
