The Outrun
29-year-old Rona has been living in London for ten years, a decade in which her life has become increasingly dominated by drink, drugs and wrong men. She realises that things cannot go on like this and decides to return to where she came from, the Scottish Orkney Islands. There she wants to overcome her addictions, there she wants to get her life back on track. The peace, beautiful nature and reunion with her parents Annie and Andrew should help, but it is not that easy, too much has already happened.
Scottish journalist Amy Liptrop's memoir entitled The Outrun was published in 2016. In it, she describes her childhood in the Orkney Islands, her destructive years in London and the return home. Central question in this: what exactly is ‘home’? Together with director Nora Fingscheidt, she adapted the book into a screenplay. Starring an impressive Saoirse Ronan.
