Blitz
In September 1940, the German Luftwaffe began systematically bombing English cities, an attack the British call the Blitz. London suffered particularly badly. Reason for single and worried mother Rita, living in East London, to send her 9-year-old son George to the countryside, where he will hopefully be safe. But he never arrives there; much preferring to be with his mother, he decides to return home on his own - a perilous journey. When Rita hears of this, desperation sets in and, as bombs strike everywhere, she decides to look for him.
British director Steve McQueen, best known for such impressive films as the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave and De bezette stad (Occupied City) about the wartime history of Amsterdam, tells a story of WWII in London in Blitz - a tribute to the resilience and courage of the people of London. Featuring Saoirse Ronan as Rita and the young but very strong acting Elliott Heffernan as George.
