All Shall Be Well

Angie and Pat, two women in their sixties, have been together for 40 years and have lived in Pat's Hong Kong apartment for ages. The two lead a pleasant life, surrounded and loved by friends and family. When Pat dies suddenly, Angie's status changes immediately: in the eyes of Pat's family, she is suddenly no more than ‘just a good friend of Pat's’, someone who therefore has no claim to anything. The family is considering selling the apartment, which would mean Angie would be out on the street. And that could happen, because Pat has nothing arranged, nothing put on paper. Not only must Angie come to terms with the death of her loved one, she must also fight for her dignity and her existence.

In this moving drama, director Ray Yeung shows what the consequences can be of not being prepared for anything, especially for same-sex couples. In countries where same-sex marriage does not exist, this can lead to big problems for the remaining partner; they have no leg to stand on legally.
