The Good Terrorist
The terrorist wing of Vught prison no longer exists. All cells have been cleared out. Thirty convicted terrorists have been released after having served their sentences. Still they continue to be haunted by the label "Muslim extremist". Jason W. (shown blurred out), who is one of them, insists that he has become de-radicalized. He has lived in hiding due to death threats by Muslim extremists for years, but is now speaking out. Nouredine El F. also wants to resume his life, with a family and an education.
In The Good Terrorist, documentary maker Robert Oey (De missie, De leugen) investigates the world of Muslim terrorism and the ambiguous attitude of the West towards homegrown terrorism. For the first time, prominent Dutch terror cell members speak out about their time with the Hofstad group. Complemented by scientists, field experts and family members, the rhetoric surrounding terrorism is examined. Ultimately, the key question is: can people really become de-radicalized?
