Tragic, dark fairy tale compared by many to Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth. Mexico: the ubiquitous violence of drug gangs also affects 10-year-old Estrella, whose mother has disappeared without a trace. Driven by hunger and loneliness, she eventually joins a gang of street kids led by a small but fierce boy named El Shine. When their youngest member Morro is abducted by a cartel known as Los Huascas, Estrella is told to go free him. A task she finds very daunting, but magical creatures guide her.
