Dolor y gloria
A director reflecting on the past and the choices he has made in life is a premise that immediately brings to mind Federico Fellini's masterpiece 8½. In his newest production, it is Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar's turn to present his view on this theme. According to himself it is his most personal film so far. Starring Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz in the lead roles.
Director Salvador Mallo (Banderas) hasn't made a film in a long time, but he can still rely on past successes. When his biggest hit is screened again, he is invited for a Q&A, which also requires the presence of lead actor Alberto Crespo. The only snag is that Mallo fell out with Crespo many years ago. To resolve things once and for all, Mallo decides to visit Crespo. They finally bury the hatchet, but for Mallo the meeting also brings back a host of memories, of his childhood and especially of his mother (Cruz).
