Light of My Life
In the near future, a deadly pandemic has ravaged the world, wiping out half of the human population – the female half. Some women managed to give birth shortly before succumbing to the disease, and some of these children are girls. Because of their scarcity, these girls are quite in demand, their lives in constant danger. Caleb is the loving, anxious father of such a girl: the now 11-year-old Ann, nicknamed Rag. Caleb has disguised Rag as much as possible as a boy. Trekking and camping through vast forests, they try to stay out of sight of prowling men. At times they need to buy stuff, though, thus forced to be at places where predatory men tend to be.
Light of My Life is Casey Affleck's feature debut. He wrote the screenplay and did the production too, as well as playing the role of Caleb. Rag is amazingly well played by 13-year-old Anna Pniowsky.
