Matthias & Maxime
Matthias and Max – both in their late twenties and friends since childhood – easily agree to play a part in the student video of one of their friends' younger sister. They are cast as a gay couple, which includes having to kiss. Their film kiss may not be "real" but generates unexpected feelings in both men, which bewilder them greatly. Matthias begins to doubt everything in his life, while Max just directs all his focus on his upcoming trip to Australia, besides being at odds with his mother.
This is already the eighth film by Xavier Dolan, the once-prodigy and now over 30-year-old. As in his acclaimed debut feature J'ai tué ma mère (2009) and the films that followed, homosexuality again plays a major role in his newest film. Also not a first is Dolan playing one of the lead roles himself: Max. As always, he wrote the script himself.
