Forbidden Planet
A sci-fi film that set a trend in more than one respect: for the first time, a robot with a fleshed-out character playing a leading role; for the first time a journey to an unknown planet; and – logically following from the previous point – for the first time featuring a faster-than-light starship.
23rd century: What has happened to the starship Bellerophon and its crew, sent to the planet Altair IV 20 years ago to establish a colony? Led by Commander Adams (Leslie Nielsen), a group of space travellers journeys to the planet in a flying saucer. After landing, they discover that only Dr. Edward Morbius and his daughter Altaira are still alive. Clearly not happy to see the newcomers, Morbius describes deadly, invisible forces, a lost civilization and a "plastic educator". He is obviously not telling all he knows. And what role does Robby the Robot play?
