Crash

Film producer James Ballard and his wife Catherine are in an open marriage. Though they freely talk about their sexual encounters, they do not get much satisfaction out of them. One dark night, Ballard collides head-on with Dr. Helen Remington's car. Ballard is seriously injured, but the accident still somehow has left him bizarrely aroused. He later meets Remington again, who in turn also happens to be oddly aroused by car accidents. The two strike up an affair; Remington introduces Ballard to Bob Vaughan, the leader of an exclusive club of people who fetishize car crashes. Ballard enters a world of twisted steel closely linked to sexual ecstasy.

With this psychological thriller, director David Cronenberg (Videodrome, The Fly, eXistenz, and more) added a new chapter to his explorations of the relationship between physical transformation and technology. Highly controversial at its release, the film is now considered one of his best. Also with James Spader, Holly Hunter, and Elias Koteas.
