Corpus Christi
"Each and every one of us is a priest of Christ," a chaplain tells his audience – all inmates of a correctional facility for youthful offenders. For one of them, this is exactly what he wanted to hear: 20-year-old Daniel, who has found his true calling in prison, while realizing that given his criminal record he will never be able to become a priest. When he is paroled to work in a sawmill, he wanders off and on entering the local chapel is mistaken for the new priest the parishioners were expecting. A bit nervous initially, but gradually gaining more confidence, Daniel goes along with the ruse and discovers that he can actually have a meaningful role within the parish. But dark demons from his past are lurking nearby.
Based on true events, this story offers a sharp view of the relationships between people and (religious) institutions in profoundly Catholic Poland. The film earned director Jan Komasa an Oscar nomination for Best International Film.
