New York City: Laura is quite sure that she has a happy marriage with Dean. However, she has noticed that he has been working a lot of overtime at the office lately, which recently welcomed an attractive new female co-worker. Could he be cheating on her? Looking for advice, she turns to her equally charming and impulsive father Felix, an incorrigible playboy. He suggests that they tail him, literally. The two embark on an odyssey through the bustling city that never sleeps, a journey that forces them to face their relationship to each other.

In her eighth feature film, director Sofia Coppola shows how parents view relationships very differently than their children. Essentially, it is a story about a barely bridgeable generation gap, though Coppola manages to maintain a tone of levity and humour.
