After their Gouden Kalf-winning 2013 documentary Ne me quitte pas, the directing duo Sabine Lubbe Bakker and Niels van Koevorden have made their feature debut with Kom hier dat ik u kus, a drama based on Flemish writer Griet Op de Beeck's eponymous novel. It tells a story about how hard it can be to get away from the grip of your family, how you are influenced by those you love, how this can all be at the expense of yourself.
Mona is nine when her mother is killed in a car accident. Soon after, her father Vincent finds a new girlfriend: Marie. Marie immediately hogs all the attention and expects Mona to see her as her new mother. Not wanting her family to fall apart, Mona puts her own needs aside; pleasing others becomes her way of life. This doesn't change, even when she has grown up. But who looks out for her?
