The Power of the Dog

Brothers Phil (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George Burbank (Jesse Plemons) are opposites. Phil is charismatic and cruel, George is rigid and gentle. Together they are the wealthy landowners of the largest ranch in the Montana Valley, where they call the shots and keep the modernised world at bay. When Phil finds out that George is secretly marrying Rose (Kirsten Dunst), he reacts in a cruel way. A war begins with the aim of completely ruining Rose. Her gentle son Peter is used as a pawn in this.

The Power of the Dog is the new film by director Jane Campion (The Piano, Top of the Lake), who also wrote the screenplay. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by the American writer Thomas Savage. The film was very successful at the Venice film festival, where Campion was awarded a Silver Lion.
