The Hand of God
These are turbulent times in 1980s Naples. The city is wild and lawless, and the population is in the grip of football and cinema. 16-year-old Fabietto is no different. He is captivated by Diego Maradonna - the best footballer in the world who left FC Barcelona to play for his Naples home - and dreams of a career as a director. After a night of cheering at a match where Maradonna steals the show, his whole life turns upside down.
Director Paolo Sorrentino, who is known for his atmospheric visual gems (La grande bellezza, Youth), returns to his birthplace Naples for The Hand of God, to tell a highly personal and autobiographical story about his youth. A gripping declaration of love to Naples and Maradonna, in which family, sport, film, love and loss are all connected.
