West Side Story
Tony is over the moon when he meets the lovely Maria at a dance party. And the love is completely mutual. But there is one big problem: Tony is a member of the Jets, while Maria is the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the rival Sharks.
West Side Story, a free adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, premiered as a Broadway musical in 1957 and was an instant hit. This was largely due to the brilliant music of Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, who recently passed away. The equally popular 1961 film won ten Oscars. The timeless story has lost none of its power and inspired Steven Spielberg to produce and direct this remake with, among others, Ansel Elgort (Tony) and Rachel Zegler (María).
