Ich bin dein Mensch
What makes a human being a human being? Is it conceivable that an intelligent robot can fill the void in a human's life? Can you have a relationship with such a robot? These are the questions German director Maria Schrader addresses in her third feature film. She does so in a light and airy way, resulting in a highly entertaining comedy. Lead actress Maren Eggert won a Silver Bear for her role at the last Berlinale.
Scientist Alma (Eggert) works at the renowned Pergamonmuseum in Berlin. In exchange for extra research budget, she agrees to take part in a remarkable experiment: she has to live with a lifelike robot for three weeks. This robot is completely focused on her happiness, wishes and desires. And so one day Tom (Dan Stevens) enters her life, the mechanical equivalent of her perfect life partner. Soon Tom starts to get on Alma's nerves.
