The Lost Daughter
The idyllic beach holiday in Greece of British literature professor Leda (Olivia Colman) is abruptly interrupted when a large and, above all, noisy American family sets foot on the beach. She feels intimidated by the family, but at the same time she is fascinated by a young mother and daughter who are also part of the family. Leda is overwhelmed by dark secrets from her own past and intense memories of motherhood that she had to deal with at a young age. An impulsive move lands her in the sinister world of her own mind, where she is forced to confront the choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.
Debuting director Maggie Gyllenhaal, known for het acting work, based her Venice Award-winning screenplay on Elena Ferrante's novel La figlia oscura (The Hidden Daughter). Besides Colman, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley and Ed Harris also star in this film.
