The Alpinist
Marc-André Leclerc is an alpinist, a mountaineer on rock, snow and ice. On remote mountain slopes, the free-spirited 23-year-old Canadian makes the most daring solo ascents. And yet he attracts little attention. Leclerc climbs alone, far away from the spotlights, without cameras, without a rope and without room for error. Famous climbers are amazed by his achievements. In a clip at the beginning of this exciting documentary, Alex Honnold (Free Solo) answers the question of who he admires most: "This kid, Marc-André Leclerc."
In The Alpinist, filmmaker Peter Mortimer follows the visionary climber, despite all the possible consequences. No easy task: the elusive loner is publicity-shy, has no phone and doesn't like to talk about his vision on climbing. While Mortimer struggles to keep up with Leclerc on camera, his climbs become more and more daring, as becomes clear from his adventure in Patagonia. All this results in an unforgettable film full of dazzling images of the rugged mountain landscape.
