Are you an emerging filmmaker, a student, or simply a creative with a story to tell on screen? Are you looking for a stage to showcase your short film and have it judged by film professionals as well as an enthusiastic audience? Then Rialto for Short is for you! This initiative offers new and undiscovered talent the chance to present their work on the big screen at the atmospheric Rialto cinema in Amsterdam.
What is Rialto for Short?
Rialto aims to discover and support new talent. Whether you make short films, music videos, or other visual works – all genres are welcome. The beauty of this program? Not only the audience, but also film professionals will get to see your work.
How does it work?
Submission before the deadline
Submit your completed film before the stated deadline. For this edition, the deadline is September 23, with the screening scheduled for Tuesday evening, October 28 at 19:30.
Selection
A professional jury will select three or four films from all submissions, with special attention given to filmmakers who have not been screened before.
Election on the screening night
On the screening night, the audience, the jury, and a special guest will decide who the winner is. A unique opportunity to receive live feedback and recognition!
Submission requirements Rialto for Short
Length: maximum 20 minutes
Language & subtitles: Dutch or English; or with Dutch/English subtitles if the film is in another language
Production period: made between 2023 and 2025
Format: via a Vimeo or YouTube link
Presence: the filmmaker or another crew member must be present at the screening to answer questions

Who is on the jury?
The selection will be judged by professionals from the film industry, such as:
Safirah Dijkstra – dramaturge at VPRO-HUMAN, talent developer at De Ontmoeting, and board member of VERS
Hugo Emmerzael – film and music critic, contributing to publications such as De Filmkrant
Stefan Malešević – senior cinema editor at De Balie and filmmaker
