Rialto for Short
Rialto offers new, undiscovered talent a chance to present themselves to audiences and professionals, and show their films on the big screen. And we are doing so again this season with the programme Rialto for Short.
This Tuesday evening, at 19.30, the third and final edition of the fifth season is on the programme; the selected entrants present their work to the public as well as to the jury. And after each film, as always, there will be a Q&A with the maker. Host of the evening: Wayne de Boer.
The selected films are:
Als ik later groot ben / When I Grow Up – r. Naomi Aalbers (2023, 17')
Lola vs. Ed - r. Lars Brinkman (2022, 10')
Har du sett ho (Have You Seen Her) – r. Astrid Ardagh (2022, 15')
Naranja Dulce – r. Clara Inés Arámburo Torres (2022, 4')
The jury members are Safirah Dijkstra (dramaturge at VPRO-HUMAN, among others), Aiman Hassani (filmmaker and collaborator Wedowe), Stefan Malešević (filmmaker and editor at De Balie). They watch the films and together with the audience and a special guest decide which film is the best of the evening. That winner competes for the € 2000 prize for the very best film of the entire fifth season. This prize is made possible by the VEVAM Foundation. Special guest this evening: Sacha Gertsik, a.o. former jury member, writes for De Filmkrant and co-founder of De Ontmoeting.

Tonight, not only will there be a winner of the third edition of the fifth season, the winner of the entire fifth season will also be announced.

Winner edition 1
Stay – dir. Woutair Koomen (5', 2021)
A story about facing your fears, even when all hope seems lost. Yasin, Rosie and the Veteran are looking for an escape: Mentally, physically and through death. But in the heat of the moment, faith brings them together and changes their destiny.
Winner edition 2
Husom – dir. Job van Aken & Mandula van den Berg (8', 2023)
A 82-year old Hungarian called Abigél lives in a small house in a Dutch suburb. Her life is completely consumed by habit and the outside world barely reaches her. The highlights of her day are the daily phone calls she gets, where she can explain everything that’s happened to her.
