Fly Me to the Moon

In 1997, young Yuen and her mother leave Hunan to join her father in Hong Kong. However, the hope of a new start for the family is fractured by her father’s drug addiction and criminal inclinations, along with her mother’s perpetual state of disappointment. Tensions temporarily ease when Yuen’s younger sister, Kuet, reunites with the family. Over the years, the sisters navigate a hostile new environment as they come of age, grappling with their migrant identities, poverty, and insecurity, while their father cycles in and out of prison.

Produced by renowned filmmaker Stanley Kwan, this debut feature, based on director Sasha Chuk’s semi-autobiographical novella, is a stunning illustration of the complexity of family relationships in Hong Kong, weaving the personal with the fabric of a society in historical transition.
