In 2023, Korean-Canadian director Celine Song captured the hearts of many film lovers with her engaging, self-written feature debut Past Lives, in which a Korean woman who moved to New York and is now married receives a visit from her former Korean childhood sweetheart. It earned Song dozens of awards and two Oscar nominations. In the romantic comedy Materialists, her second and also self-written film, everything again revolves around a love triangle between a woman and two men. Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal play the lead roles.
