Bob Trevino Likes It

25-year-old Lily Trevino, a home care nurse, is a somewhat lonely woman. Her mother has been absent for a long time, her father Bob is really only interested in himself. After yet another argument, he decides to cut all ties with his daughter; he even blocks her on Facebook. Lily thinks she is only unfriended and searches for him on the site. She does not find him, but she does find another Bob Trevino, one without an avatar. To him she sends a friendship request and he accepts. This Bob turns out to be the opposite of her father in everything; he is kind, interested and, like Lily, likes corny jokes. In short, he is the man Lily would have liked to have had as a father.

This second feature by Tracie Laymon is a typical example of what is called “nicecore”, a genre of films that focus on kind, compassionate and empathetic people. Too good to be true? Laymon reportedly based the story on her own experiences.
