Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale
The first season of the British series Downton Abbey, created and written by Julian Fellowes, was broadcast in 2010. This lavish costume drama about the ins and outs of the aristocratic Crawley family and all their staff in the early 1910s was a huge hit. Not surprisingly, five equally successful seasons followed, as well as two feature films: Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022). Now it's time for the grand finale, the very last chapter in the Downton Abbey story, once again written by Fellowes. The regular cast is back, with the exception of Maggie Smith, who played the Dowager. She passed away in 2024.
Early 1930s: Lady Mary has become the centre of a public scandal because of her divorce. Add to that the fact that the Crawleys are not doing too well financially, and it is clear that something has to change. A new generation must lead Downton Abbey into the future.
