Ellis Park
Warren Ellis (1968) came into contact with music by chance. As a child, he found a discarded accordion at the local rubbish tip. He took it to school, where his teacher taught him how to play it. The rest is history: Ellis, the violinist with the distinctive beard, has been playing for decades in his own band, The Dirty Three, and in Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
Besides music, Ellis has another great passion: caring for and sheltering animals abused by smugglers. He does this on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, where he has opened a nature reserve in the forest run by Dutch animal activist Femke den Haas. The animals find a safe haven there, while Ellis finds peace and inspiration.
Director Justin Kurzel not only shows how Ellis' creative mind works, but also wants to inspire the viewer by showing what people can achieve when they work together.
