Eddington
In the spring of 2020, the COVID pandemic also reached the small, sleepy town of Eddington in New Mexico. Face masks become mandatory, although many consider this to be nonsense. Among them is the local sheriff, Joe Cross, if only to annoy his rival Ted Garcia, the town's mayor. Garcia has just announced his candidacy for a second term, with no competition in sight. On a whim, Joe decides to run for office as well, positioning himself as the man who is fiercely opposed to all government interference and who thinks all coronavirus measures are nonsense. His wife Louise, who once had a thing with Garcia, is not happy about this. Tensions in the town rise, especially when the Black Lives Matter movement appears on the scene.
In this satirical COVID western, director Ari Aster shows how divided the US is today, with political opponents hating each other to the core. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone.
