Pavilion 6

When the first coronavirus vaccines became available, Croatian filmmaker Goran Dević accompanied an elderly relative who was a little apprehensive about getting vaccinated. It soon became clear that he hadn't really needed to go, because his relative immediately got caught up in a lively conversation with other people waiting for their jabs. He noticed that everyone in the queues was chatting to each other as if they were old friends who hadn't seen each other for a long time.

And with this observation, the idea for this film was born, a quiet yet very hilarious documentary about fleeting encounters at a vaccination centre in Zagreb. The short conversations are often surprisingly candid, with people from all walks of life happy to share what is on their minds. It seems like a series of insignificant small talk, but in fact Dević has painted a vivid portrait of his country, full of warmth, humour and eccentricity.
