The Long Walk
In the not-too-distant future, the United States has turned into a grim police state. Every year, a sinister competition takes place for entertainment: the Long Walk, a marathon for teenage boys that only ends when there is one contestant left standing. The winner goes home with a big prize, while all the other participants never return home, because those who don't make it are shot. One of the contestants is Raymond Garraty, who quickly befriends three other participants during the journey. But no matter how close they are, they know that in the end only one contestant will survive the death march. And indeed, as time goes by, more and more contestants are killed.
A story by Stephen King formed the basis for this dystopian tale, which is reminiscent of the film series The Hunger Games. Director Francis Lawrence is on familiar ground, as he directed four of the five films in that series. Starring Cooper Hoffman, Mark Hammil and Judy Greer.
