Le jeune Ahmed

In Le jeune Ahmed, the new film by directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (Deux jours, Une nuit, Le gamin au vélo, and more), 13-year-old Ahmed struggles with his faith's ideals and life's temptations. When Ahmed fully commits to his faith, he becomes unrecognizable to the people around him. His teachers are worried about his extremist interpretations of the Quran, and at home he gets into arguments with his mother for drinking and his sisters for not dressing modestly enough. Most of all, he obsesses about the impurity of Ines, the teacher who has been tutoring him since he was a young boy: she's a Muslim, but she is dating a Jew.

As Ahmed becomes increasingly more absorbed in his religion, his family and friends are concerned to see the rift between them widen even more. After an intense incident, Ahmed has to decide how far he wants to go.
