Jay Kelly
‘All my memories are films,’ confesses celebrated star actor Jay Kelly with some regret to director Peter Scheider, his former mentor. He has actually missed out on “real” life with his daughters. Later, while Kelly is working on the final scene of his new film, he learns that Schneider has suddenly passed away. At the funeral, he meets his former flatmate Timothy, who does not have the fondest memories of him and showers him with reproaches. Distraught, Kelly decides to follow his youngest daughter Daisy, who is going on a road trip from France to Italy. His loyal manager Ron also travels with them. Along the way, the two are confronted with the (wrong) choices they made in the past.
In this melancholic mix of drama and comedy, director Noah Baumbach tells a story of frustration, jealousy and regret, a story he wrote himself together with Emily Mortimer. Kelly is convincingly portrayed by George Clooney, while Adam Sandler and Laure Dern also make an appearance.
