It will be a fun and colourful afternoon at Rialto De Pijp with the screening of the uplifting documentary Azart, Come Make Art. The afternoon will start with live music, followed by the film, and afterwards there will be a Q&A with main character August Dirks, moderated by directors Annike Kaljouw and Masha Novikova.
Azart, Come Make Art
The Amsterdam ship of fools Azart sailed around the world for 33 years as a floating work of art, bringing joy and theatre. Captain August Dirks, a master of the art of living, wanted to retrace the route of the Dutch East India Company, but in a different way: ‘Not to steal and plunder, but to play and share.’ When he became seriously ill, the ship set sail for a final (spectacular!) berth.
The film tells the colourful and cheerful history of the ship Azart, starring Captain August, who lived and worked on the adventure ship all that time. The ship has now run aground – literally – on a South American beach, where the wonderful story continues, led by a local theatre group. A universal story about indestructible optimism, making dreams come true and a rock-solid belief that “things can be different”.
