The Shining
The completely deranged Jack Torrance, played brilliantly by Jack Nicholson, has just chopped a hole in the door behind which his terrified wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) is trying to hide. Jack sticks his satanically contorted head through the hole and utters the now legendary words: ‘Here's Johnny!’ – a phrase you will never forget. It is the blood-curdling climax of this famous horror classic, Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of Stephen King's 1977 novel of the same name.
Ex-alcoholic Jack Torrance has found a job as caretaker at the remote Overlook Hotel in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where he hopes to work on his novel. Together with his wife Wendy and their son Danny, he arrives at the virtually deserted hotel, as there are no guests in winter. Horrific things have happened there in the past, giving the clairvoyant Danny terrifying visions. But Jack also loses his way, slowly sinking into madness and obsessive thoughts.
