Wuthering Heights

Under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, the novel Wuthering Heights was published in 1847, in which British author Emily Brontë tells the story of the passionate and destructive love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Initially, literary critics did not appreciate it, but it did not take long before the quality and originality of the work were recognised. Sadly, Brontë did not live to see this; she died a year after the publication of her first and last novel. Today, Wuthering Heights is considered one of the most important works of British literature. It is not surprising that the novel has been adapted countless times in various ways, including for film.

British director Emerald Fennell has created a new version, written by herself, in which the tumultuous love story has taken on the character of an erotic psychological (costume) drama – a story about lust, desire and madness. Margot Robbie plays Catherine, while Jacob Elordi takes on the role of Heathcliff.
