I Swear
In 1983, the life of Scottish schoolboy John Davidson looks promising, as he is a good student and an excellent footballer. Everything changes when he develops Tourette's syndrome, with uncontrolled movements, compulsive behaviour and random swearing. Those around him do not understand, and he soon becomes isolated from everyone; loneliness, fear and shame dominate his life. He is now in his twenties when he meets Dottie, the mother of a former classmate who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. A special bond develops between the two, giving John's life a new direction.
Director Kirk Jones tells in a captivating and empathetic way the true story of John Davidson, who has become a spokesperson for people with Tourette's. Jones has already won many awards for it, including the Audience Award at the last IFFR. Davidson received a high British honour in 2019: Queen Elizabeth appointed him a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
