Father Mother Sister Brother

American director Jim Jarmusch made his first (graduation) film in 1980. Forty-five years later, his latest film, once again written by himself, has been released: Father Mother Sister Brother, a family story told in three separate parts about appearances, distorted memories and rather expensive watches. It is another one of his characteristic mixes of melancholic humour and understated drama, with an all-star cast including Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver and Vicky Krieps. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

The relationship between parents and their adult children can be quite difficult. In Father, the first part, brother and sister Jeff and Emily visit their father, from whom they have been estranged for some time. In Mother, a famous writer welcomes her daughters Timothea and Lilith. All three live in Dublin, but they only see each other once a year. In Sister Brother, brother and sister Billy and Skye come together in the Paris home of their parents, who were recently killed in a plane crash.
