In summer, it can get hot in the city – very hot… If you’re longing for a bit of relief from the heat, you can head for the water, sit on a shaded terrace or seek shelter under a tree in the park. But there’s another excellent option: go to the cinema, immerse yourself in the story, all whilst enjoying the pleasant temperature provided by the air conditioning. But which film would you like to see?
Which film suits the summery conditions best? To find out, we asked the Rialto staff, people who love both summer and films. That survey ultimately yielded five delightful, summery classics.
Rialto staff member Dagmar suggested the Japanese sports comedy Waterboys, about a group of teenage nerds who throw themselves into the art of synchronised swimming.
Suus suggested A Bigger Splash, a thrilling tale full of intrigue about how a pop star’s holiday is ruined by an unexpected visitor. Starring Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes.
The Australian The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, about a travelling group of drag queens, has since become a true cult classic. It is Bente’s choice.
Stephen King didn’t just write horror stories, but also, for example, Stand by Me, a brilliant and adventurous coming-of-age drama about friendship. Maryam’s favourite film.
Suzanne chose the multi-award-winning Mexican summer classic Y tu mamá también about two 17-year-old boys who go on a road trip with an adult woman.
So it’s going to be a lovely summer at Rialto, full of wonderful films. In other words: this summer, at Rialto, you’ll find not only a cool escape, but also warmth for the heart and soul!
