The Eastern Neighbours Film Festival, which annually presents the best and most relevant films from Eastern Europe in The Hague, is going on tour and will also visit Rialto De Pijp. On Saturday, October 21, it will present the Dutch premiere of the feature film Kaymak by Macedonian director Milčo Mančevski. The film will be introduced by artistic-director Rada Šešić. After the screening there will be the traditional ENFF cocktail party on Rialto's entresol.
Kaymak
Skopje, North Macedonia: wealthy couple Eva and Metodi would like to raise a child, but don't fancy all the hassle of pregnancy. Then Dosta appears on the scene, a woman with a mental disability who is willing to act as a surrogate mother, Metodi being the donor. Meanwhile, their less wealthy neighbours Danche and Caramba have completely different problems. In their relationship, there is no more room or time for intimacy. The fact that Caramba is having an affair with Violetka, a saleswoman at the market of the local delicacy kaymak, a dairy product, does not help. But strangely enough, Danche gets along very well with Violetka. The three decide to move in together.
Director Milcho Manchevski, who previously won a Golden Lion in Venice with Before the Rain, tells the story of the eternal search for love, but in this comedy links it to topical issues such as surrogate parenthood, infidelity, the role of women in the family and in society, and sexual freedom.
