Reggae Vibrations x WCA: Yardie

In collaboration with Reggae Vibrations, World Cinema Amsterdam presents the Dutch premiere of Yardie, the feature debut of Idris Elba on Friday 17 May. With pre-film and a drink afterwards.

Only a few more months and World Cinema Amsterdam will start again. This time it will be a very festive edition: the festival will take place for the tenth time from 15 to 24 August. Time for some anticipation: in collaboration with Reggae Vibrations, WCA presents the Dutch premiere of Yardie on Friday 17 May with Idris Elba in the lead role. A pre-film in advance, afterwards DJs Joss & Flo Selecting will provide the right musical ambiance. 

The evening is introduced by WCA programmer Nancy Asaah and Emiel Martens.

Yardie

British actor Idris Elba, who has numerous roles to his name, many in large blockbusters like the Thor films, is arguably most famous for playing DCI John Luther in the eponymous brilliant British crime series. But now Elba has taken the director’s seat for his directorial debut.

Kingston, 1970s: a gang war is raging in the Jamaican capital. Fed up with the violence dj Jerry Dread tries to broker peace between the hostile gangs. It costs him his life. The murder is witnessed by his younger brother D., who narrates the traumatic event to us. 10 years pass: D. has grown up under the wing of local crime boss and music producer King Fox. When D. does something stupid, Fox sends him to London. Here D. reconnects with his wife and daughter, who had left some years earlier, but he also runs into the man who killed his brother...
