R.M.N.
Matthias has returned from Germany to his native village in Romanian Transylvania after a failed adventure. He wants to get more involved in raising his son, and he also wants to see Csilla again, his ex-lover. She is a manager at a large bakery in the village, the main employer. Due to all sorts of EU regulations, the bakery is in trouble, forcing her to look for labourers willing to work for a pittance. In the village, no one wants that and so she brings in two guest workers from Sri Lanka, leading to great unrest in the village.
R.M.N. is the Romanian abbreviation for MRI, the scan that allows you to map the deeper layers of the brain; the layers that, according to director Cristian Mungiu, house man's primitive emotions and animal instincts. In this self-written 'scan', he shows what comes to surface from these deeper layers: frustration, fear and anger.
