German director Tomas Freiburg is a manipulative man, who uses people without much restraint in order to get something exciting for himself again. Together with his British husband Martin, he lives in Paris, where he is working on his latest film. After a difficult day of shooting, he meets the pretty schoolteacher Agathe in a club, with whom he begins a love affair as impulsive as it is stormy - it is simultaneously the end of his marriage to Martin. But to what extent does he want to go for her? When Tomas does make advances towards Martin again, the latter turns out to have found someone else. Tomas is jealous.

In this true character study, American director Ira Sachs shows a man who expects everyone to do what he wants, like a demanding director on a film set. There has been much speculation in the press about the extent to which the story is autobiographical. The answer will probably never be given. With Franz Rogowski, Ben Whishaw and Adèle Exarchopoulos.
