Roter Himmel

Writer Leon, an introvert and insecure twenty-something, makes no progress with his new novel. Very annoying, because his publisher is about to review the manuscript. In desperation, he decides to accompany his friend Felix, a photographer, to his family home somewhere on the German Baltic coast. He hopes to find peace and quiet there, but it turns out there is already an occupant in the house: Nadja, a friend of the family, who does not show much understanding for Leon's introverted nature. Not much later, Devid, an athletic lifeguard, Nadja's boyfriend, also arrives. And, of course, Leon's publisher, Helmut, also arrives. The relationship between the five is strained, exacerbated by a huge fire raging not far from the house; the sky is red, ashes descend.

After Undine (2020), Roter Himmel is the second part of a trilogy in which director Christian Petzold explores existential issues such as anger, fear and jealousy. Among others, with Thomas Schubert and Paula Beer.
