Het smelt

Flemish writer Lize Spit's debut novel, Het smelt, was published in 2015. The novel became a bestseller in Belgium and in the Netherlands. The also Flemish director Veerle Baetens, best known as an actress, filmed the novel after a screenplay she wrote herself together with Spit and Maarten Loix. It is her feature film debut.

Eva has a casual job with a photographer in Brussels, but not much else - she is lonely. When she reads on social media that the death anniversary of a childhood friend is being commemorated, she decides to travel to her hometown of Bovenmeer. Above all, she wants to confront the tormentors of her childhood there. When she was thirteen, Eva wanted to belong to a group around the slightly older Pim and Laurens. It was in the scorching hot summer of that year that everything changed forever. She set off with a block of ice cream in the boot Starring Charlotte de Bruyne and Rosa Marchant as the adult and youthful Eva respectively.
