City of Wind (a Young Shaman)
In the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, 17-year-old Ze is in his final year at school. And he is doing very well; his teacher expects him to go far. But Ze has already made a career for himself: he is a highly respected shaman, counselling people, helped by ancestral spirits. Not everyone is impressed by this: peer Maralaa thinks it's all nonsense. And it is precisely to her he is hugely attracted - and she to him. Together they dive into the city's nightlife. How does this relate to his spiritual work?
Ulaanbaatar is a big city full of modern skyscrapers and hideous buildings from the Soviet past, but on the outskirts of the city there are also the traditional yurts. In this self-written coming-of-age story, her feature debut, Mongolian but now Lisbon-based director Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir shows how this contrast between old and new, between modern and traditional takes shape in everyday life.
