Quand vient l'automne

Retired Michelle lives in a beautiful country house in an idyllic French village, where her old friend Marie-Claude also lives. One day Valérie, Michelle's daughter, arrives with her son Lucas. Michelle has a somewhat strained relationship with Valérie, but she adores Lucas and he adores his grandmother. However, a nasty incident involving inedible mushrooms spoils what should have been so much fun, after which Valérie leaves with Lucas in a hurry. Michelle is left alone, consumed by guilt and regret. Soon after, Vincent enters the scene, Marie-Claud's son, who has just been released from prison. Michelle hires him as a gardener, but soon he takes on a bigger role in her life.

François Ozon is a director who has explored many film genres, but the motifs of grief, loss and forgiveness recur in many of his films, including this one. Hélène Vincent portrays the lead role with verve in this melancholic and true-to-life drama.
