My Favourite Cake

Not much is going on in 70-year-old Mahin's life anymore. She lives by herself in Tehran, her husband has died, daughter and grandchildren live abroad. After another dull afternoon with her girlfriends, she decides she needs to change course. And what better way to do that than by finding a new love? In her search for a nice, single man, she eventually ends up in a small restaurant where she meets Faramarz, a modest, friendly and single taxi driver of her age. Like her, he has an independent spirit, which has caused him to clash with the authorities before; he played an instrument in a wedding band. She invites him to her home, where she will bake her favourite cake for him. It will be a very special evening.

If there is one film that tells a gentle, kind and human story, it is this one. But Iranian authorities thought otherwise and banned directors Maryam Moghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha from travelling to Berlin for its world premiere. Starring a fantastic Lili Farhadpour.
