The Brutalist
Hungarian-Jewish architect László Toth emigrates to the United States just after the war, where he ends up with his cousin Atilla, who runs a furniture store in Pennsylvania. One day the two are approached by Harry Lee, the son of wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren. He wants the two to turn his father's old reading room into a state-of-the-art library. And they do, but Harrison is dissatisfied and sends the two out the door without paying them. From then on, things go rapidly downhill for László. Years later, having become addicted to heroin, he is tracked down by Harrison: his library was highly regarded in architectural circles - whether he is interested in an even bigger job?
This epic, monumental film about the pursuit of the American Dream, Brady Corbet's fourth film, has now won many film awards, including the Silver Lion for Best Direction at the Venice Film Festival. Starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce.
