Even the most die-hard supporter of Israel can no longer deny that terrible crimes against humanity are being committed on a large scale in Gaza. Every day, we see the horrific images on the news, and a ceasefire, let alone a peace agreement, seems far off. The particularly urgent documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk shows this raw reality, but combines it with the personal images of someone who is right in the middle of it.

In April 2024, Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi attempts to travel to the Gaza Strip to document the Israeli siege, but of course she is stopped at the border. Not long after, she comes into contact with 25-year-old Palestinian photojournalist Fatma Hossana, who lives in Gaza. Through video calls, a close bond develops between the two, giving Farsi a human perspective on what is happening there; she sees hope and vitality, but also fear and grief. At the same time, Hossana reports on the daily bombings and all the destruction.

On 16 April 2025, Hossana's home is hit by an Israeli missile. Hossana and ten of her family members are killed. In this light, the film is not only a powerful indictment, but perhaps even more so a tribute to a courageous and very special woman.
