El jockey

Remo Manfredini was once a legendary jockey, but after an accident his behaviour has changed considerably; he stares blankly ahead and hardly says a word, but he has also become increasingly indifferent and self-destructive, drinking like a fish. This does not bode well for his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend Abril, let alone his career as a jockey. But he has to keep racing, because he owes money to the shady criminal Sirena. This gangster boss is convinced that Remo still has what it takes to win a race and thus earn money for him. He gives Remo one more chance, even providing him with an expensive Japanese horse. The condition: he is not allowed to drink a drop until the race. That proves difficult.

In this now multi-award-winning black comedy, reminiscent of the work of Aki Kaurismäki and Yorgos Lanthimos, Argentine director Luis Ortega tells a story about the burden of fame and inevitable decline.
